GRIEVANCE PROCEDURES
The Grievance
Committee mediates problems that patients have with physician members of WCMS. The
committee is comprised of six physicians from our community, who listen to patient
complaints, make impartial judgments based on all available facts and information,
and take action, when indicated, to correct the situation.
Patients are urged
to discuss the matter with the involved physician prior to filing a grievance. We
find that in many cases, the doctor and patients can resolve a number of misunderstandings
if both parties take the time to talk to each other and work out their differences.
If you are unable
to resolve a problem with a physician member of WCMS, then you can write or call WCMS and
request forms to file a grievance. Once the grievance is filed, then the Grievance
Committee will investigate this issue in a timely manner and issue an opinion. Grievances
can also be filed with the Washington State Medical Association and can be located on the
internet at www.wsma.org.
